Ok you're right. Our company name can be confusing if you don't speak Arabic.
How do you pronounce it? What the heck does it mean?
Eye-shra-seven? Ish-ra-seven? I-S-H-R-A-7?... Confused?
Actually it’s ISHRA7. ISHRA7 is the Arabic word for “explain,” but, what’s up with the number seven at the end?
Let us explain: Arabic is spoken in a bunch of different countries in the Middle East, but for a while keyboards with Arabic letters were rare. So people in the region communicated by sounding out Arabic words and using English letters to spell them out. Only problem was that there are some sounds that exist in Arabic but not in English. So people started using numbers to represent those sounds. This new form of spelling spread and everyone started using it. Kind of like how everyone understands what LOL, OMG, or brb mean (or not).
Which brings us back to ISHRA7. So the Arabic word looks like this اشرح, but when you use the English alphabet (and numbers) it looks like this: ISHRA7 (pronounced: [ish-rah].
Anyway, ISHRA7 means explain and Ishra7.com is where you can go to get difficult or complicated topics explained using simple, fun, and engaging visual stories.
So if someone asks you about a word with numbers as letters, you can now ISHRA7.
